Key Stage 3
The Creative Arts Department offers a wide range of learning opportunities at KS3. Students are involved in a subject rotation including Art and Design, Textiles, Food and Nutrition and Product Design allowing students to gain a flavour for each of the creative areas.
Art and Design
Art and Design at KS3 allows our students to explore and experiment with a wide range of materials along with social, moral and cultural themes. Students develop their skills in drawing, use of paint, oil pastels, spray-paint and 3D processes in a supportive and encouraging environment. Students are challenged in every lesson to consider how their art work links to the wider world and our students are confident in discussing and debating their ideas. Students discuss the work of other artists and are able to express their opinions about their own work and the work of others with confidence.
Our Textiles department prepares students for the GCSE Arts Textiles course with students designing and making creative and exciting textile outcomes. Students learn how to research and present their findings, use their research to produce varied and interesting design ideas which they are then able to transform into original textiles pieces. Our students are able to use both hand embroidery and machine stitching and experiment with applique, adding embellishments and tie-dying.
