The Governing body of Sherburn High School provide a strategic overview for the school and hold our head teacher and senior leaders to account in the work that they do.

We are also critical friends to the school and provide support and an external view in major decisions which can affect our young people.

We passionately believe that our staff and pupils are now in a position to take Sherburn High School firmly forward to becoming the outstanding school our community deserves.

We have an amazingly talented group of people leading the school and our governors are committed volunteers who are always prepared to go the extra mile to ensure that we only recruit staff to the school who are good or outstanding practitioners, and who share our ethos and passion for teaching and learning.

We take pride in our work and on our thorough understanding of the way our school operates. Governors are linked to key areas of development identified by the school and we are regularly in school so we can see first hand how our school leaders monitor and evaluate every child’s performance as individuals. We ask important and sometimes difficult questions to make sure that expectations continue to be raised and that our school is an aspirational, safe and effective place in which every child can achieve their own potential.

We are also rigorous in our financial management and scrutiny of the school budget; a task which is always difficult in our constrained financial climate. Our other responsibilities include staffing structure and profile, premises, health and safety, safeguarding, school self-evaluation, departmental reviews, tutoring, staff training, school development plan, school policies, Ofsted, sixth form collaborative arrangements and school facilities.

We are extremely proud of the staff, students and parents at Sherburn High School and personally, I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the governing body for the past 6 years. It is exciting, challenging and rewarding to play a small part in the journey of this school and to observe the dedication and commitment shown by all our staff who play such an important part in shaping the future lives of our young people. I very much look forward to the next few years!
