ENGLISH - KEY STAGE 3

Subject Curriculum Model

Students progress through a learning journey each half term, gradually building confidence through detailed feedback and target setting before completing an end of unit assessment.

Lessons are planned to be engaging and challenging, encouraging students to become increasingly confident and reflective learners. A focus on improving skills ensures clear progression between units and students develop personal targets which are routinely used in lessons to support achievement. A range of approaches, including talk for learning, drama, presentations and creative visual activities are used alongside more traditional literacy work to help each student achieve their full potential.

English is more than reading, it is about communicating. Being heard but more importantly, being listened to. We teach our students that anyone can make noise but only the successful will cause people to stop and consider what they have said. As a department, we believe that a passion for English and feeling of self-confidence enables all students to achieve more highly across the curriculum.
