The
curriculum is innovative and designed to meet the needs of individual
learners. For example, we retain the option of pursuing the three
separate sciences at GCSE, students can begin some A level courses
two years early, and we have recently completed a successful pilot
of single gender teaching groups in English. 95% of our sixth
form students achieved their first choice university place in
2005. At
around 1000 students the school is big enough to deliver, but
small enough to care. We deliver a broad and rich curriculum,
and we also pride ourselves on excellent pastoral care. In year
groups of around 170 students individuals can become well known
by their tutor and head of year. Every report on the school from
Ofsted to independent surveys mentions the high standards of care
and guidance. As
I hope this website and the prospectus will demonstrate we do
not limit our horizons to delivering an academic education. We
believe in developing rounded individuals and as such our commitment
to sport, drama, music and other enrichment activities remains
strong. In
addition I think it is worth adding that Sherburn High School
is a well disciplined school, and it retains what I call ‘a
proper uniform’, that is shirt, tie and blazer! If
you would like further information or to arrange a visit please
contact the school.
