The
IT Department
At Sherburn High School Information
Technology is both a discrete subject area and a resource for
all students and staff to use.
In Years 7, 8 and 9 students get 1 hour per week of discrete
IT teaching where IT skills are learnt and consolidated through
undertaking projects that bring together a number of software
skills.
We currently offer OCR National ICT
to year 10 and 11 students wishing to undertake an IT course
that will result in a recognized
qualification. Higher ability students are given the option of undertaking
a double award OCR National.
OCR National ICT is a course that
teaches students how to use various pieces of software efficiently
within a real life context.
The course provides students with a qualification that provides employers
and higher education establishments with proof that a student has
useful Information Technology skills.
AS and A2 ICT is offered at Post 16 using the WJEC exam board specification.
The AS course requires the students to undertake a project where
they have to develop a series of professional looking documents for
a specific business. |

This project demands a high level understanding
of advanced features of office software. There is also a written
exam for the AS qualification. At A2 level, the students are expected
to develop and document the development of a relational database.
The A2 course also consists of a written exam. This stimulating
and demanding course is designed to provide and enhance the essential
IT skills that are vital for both higher education and future professions.
The IT department provides bookable resources for other departments
to use including a multimedia ready lecture theatre and a dedicated
cross curricular IT room and access to IT rooms when not in use
by the IT department.
