At Sherburn High School Information Technology is both a discrete subject area and a resource for all students and staff to use. In Years 7, 8 and 9 students get 1 hour per week of discrete IT teaching where many skills are learnt and consolidated. We currently offer two different IT options to our Year 10 and 11 students; OCR National ICT and GCE Applied Information Technology.

OCR National ICT is a course that teaches students how to use various pieces of software efficiently within a real life context. The course provides students with a qualification that provides employers and higher education establishments with proof that a student has useful Information Technology skills.

GCE AS level Applied Information Technology is available to students with a high level of ability as they are essentially starting an A-level course 2 years early. This up to date course requires students to research and manage information, implement problem solving spreadsheets as well as organize and present information in a variety of ways, including creating websites. This stimulating and demanding course is designed to provide and enhance the essential IT skills that are vital for both higher education and future professions.

Students who take GCE Applied IT can study the A2 part of the course in our sixth form and other students can start this course in Year 12.

The IT department provides bookable resources for other departments to use including a multimedia ready lecture theatre and a dedicated cross curricular IT room. Many departments have IT resources in their subject bases and IT provision within the school is always expanding.
