Applied GCE in Health & Social Care:
The Applied
GCE Advanced Level Health and Social Care provide students
with some of the skills they will need for a career
in the caring professions. It would be of benefit to anyone considering
a career working with people.
The course is comprised of 6 units,
three completed in the first year which make up an AS level
qualification. A further three
can be studied in the second year to provide an ‘A’ level
qualification.
The First Year Units are Effective Caring; this introduces students
to the range of services provided for clients in health and social
care. It also introduces some of the factors, which are required
for a good quality of life ie. Physical and Psychological. The
unit enables students to develop some of the skills and techniques
needed if they are to treat people well.
The
second unit Effective Communication aims to develop the student’s
communication skills and in particular those used in health
and social care settings. Activities are designed
to improve students your competences and confidence in written,
oral and non-verbal communication skills.
The third
unit at AS level is Health Illness and Disease is designed to improve
a student's knowledge of health, illness
and disease and to develop understanding of the different factors,
which affect health and well-being. It also examines the use
of preventative interventions such as screening and inoculations
that can be taken to improve health and well being for all client
groups.
In the second year of this course students are able to develop
their own interests within the subject area. The unit Human Development
Factors and Theories aims to introduce different theories of
human development and behaviour, and the genetic and socio-economic
factors which influence them. Working in Health and Social Care
increases understanding of the world of work in health and social
care. It also helps students to reflect on their own suitability
for different job roles. The final unit allows a student to follow
a pathway into Health Care, Social Care or Early Years careers.
As
part of the course student’s visit services, interview
practitioners and take part in a range of practical activities
including role play.
Applied GCSE in Health and Social Care:
(Double Award)
This GCSE in Health and Social Care has been designed to provide
students in Years 10 and 11 with a broad understanding of working
practices used within Health, Social Care and Early Years services.
The course consists of 3 units completed over two years:
The first being Health, Social Care and Early Years Provision,
this helps students to understand the structure of care provision
in the UK. Students when working on this unit invite service
providers into school, visit services and go on placement.
The second unit, Promoting Health and Well Being enables students
to look at Factors affecting the Health and Well Being of a client;
students plan to help the client to improve their health and
well being.
In the final unit Understanding Personal Development and Relationships,
students learn about the stages of human growth and development.
In addition they learn about the complexities of Personal relationships
and their impact on life.
Cache
Level 2 Certificate in Child Care & Education
This is a one Year Post 16 Course designed for those students
who want to work with children or who would like to know how
to care for children from Birth to 7 years. Students learn about
children at different stages in their growth and development
and through practical experiences whilst on placement. These
are undertaken in a range of care settings including local Primary
Schools, Nurseries and play groups. When on placement students
plan, and carry out activities with small groups of children
they are caring for.
There are no formal entry qualifications; however you do need
a willingness to work.
This
course is also available to adult learners.
