Fantastic GCSE and A Level Results

August saw students achieve some excellent results in art and design. over 75% of our students taking art and design achieved grade A* -C. This follows a trend in the department for year on year improving success. We are proud of all our students achievements in art and design which comes about by the hard work and determination of our students and staff.

The A level results were just as pleasing with all students achieving the best grades, indeed one student achieved a result which is within the top 5% in the whole country!

A Level Art students visit to Harlow Carr Gardens, Harrogate

Year 12 A Level students had the opportunity to visit The National Horticultural Society’s Garden at Harlow Carr near Harrogate. They were given a guided tour of the many and varied sculptures on display. The work of sculptor Steve Blaylock was prominent in the gardens with his depiction of insects and birds made from Stainless Steel. The students collected numerous images to work on back at school for their ongoing ‘Natural Forms’ project, where students have already honed their drawing skills and even learnt hoe to develop and print their own black and white photographs.
Students will take forward their ideas from the visit and produce an original sculpture of their own
