Synergy will be working
with our year 10 students over the coming months to inform them
of how a real business would promote the forthcoming exhibitions
and guide the students towards successful outcomes. Galleries
and Visits
Students are offered the opportunity to make visits to both local and national
Galleries. In recent years students have visited Barcelona, London, Leeds and
York galleries, and The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Tropical World and The National
Railway Museum. Exhibitions
Our students have exhibited their work in local galleries including The Mercer
Art Gallery in Harrogate. We take pride in all of our student’s art
and design work and have a continually changing range of displays around the
school. Our annual show takes place in April and May and celebrates our students
success on their GCSE and A Level courses GCSE
Art and Design Exhibition 2006
Year
11 art students completed their GCSE course with an impressive
display of
their artistic and creative skills. All students succeeded
in presenting 3 projects and their final exam work.
The work covered a diverse range of approaches and techniques
from sculptural carving, casting and modelling, through graphic
design and traditional drawing and painting. Our students
demonstrated their influences from a range of sources including
a visit
to the Yorkshire sculpture Park and Tropical world in Leeds.
The art department said ‘Our students have worked hard
and have shown a great deal of commitment to their work.
We are proud of the achievements of all our students and
congratulate
every one who exhibited their work.’ The
exhibition was open to the public and Gallery 42 in Tadcaster
will be exhibiting some students work. Lunchtime
activities
Students enjoy the opportunity to extend their artwork through lunchtime art
clubs. Some choose to complete and extend class work whilst others want to
try out their own creative ideas. Technology
The art department encourages students to use a wide variety of media including
computers. Students can work on images and manipulate their own work through
access to a network of very well resourced computers and software. POST 16
6th form Art students had the opportuniy to discuss life as a
Foundation student at Art College recently. Ex Sherburn art
student, Kristy Moran returned to school to describe her life
after completing her A level in art and design 3 years ago.
Kristy talked with current post 16 students as they completed
their exhibitions and discussed the practical aspects of student
life and the advantages of her course. Kristy has just finished
her second year Design Degree course at Leeds Metropolitan
University. We
are proud to deliver a rich, enjoyable and diverse experience
of Art and Design to our students.
